Refurbishment of premises on Carrer Calvet in Barcelona to locate a quality fast food restaurant there. The premises are in a building in Barcelona's Sant Gervasi-Galvany district. They cover a total area of 153 m2 and comprise two irregularly laid-out floors. Some of the difficulties posed by this project are the lack of natural light and ventilation in the basement.
The aims are: To attain a distribution that allows diners to decide whether to take the food away, eat it quickly on the premises or eat it there at more leisure. To turn the basement into a more open space with natural light and ventilation. At the same time, get quicker access and make it more visible from the street.
Elements for achieving the aims set: Use of different materials to visually separate the two areas and as an element of union of the two dining rooms. Opening and subsequent reconstruction of the wrought ironwork between the two dining rooms to ensure that light gets into the basement, the new location of the staircase and the visual communication between the two dining rooms.
