The university is required to offer a response to societal needs. This project identifies a deficiency in the graphic design sector: design studios receive more and more commissions to design mobile applications, even though there is little specific training for designers in this sector of mobile communication.
The goal of this project is to create a course to cover this curricular gap, taking on the challenge of training graphic designers in such as way as to ensure required knowledge to autonomously take on, structure and design a mobile application, while working hand in hand with programmers.
The course will be divided into three modules: creation of the navigation tree, taking into account the premises of usability; screen design in consideration of underlying specificities of iOS and Android; and production of a mock-up to test viability along with the creation of all material necessary to allow the programmer to develop the application.
The course curriculum will be open, given that it will correspond to the Bologna education plan; the course will be student-centred. In function of student demand, content will be adjusted to offer more personalized instruction, responding to the training structure of the European Higher Education Area.
For symbiotic questions it will be necessary to have a programmer available to formalize the project, thus linking it in with the project’s other lines of continuity: an agreement will be made with the Polytechnic University of Catalonia so that students doing the Computer Science degree might be connected to students of this course, allowing for a complete formalization of the project (designers will take on responsibility for the structure and design, while programmers will develop the project).
