Centro Cultural Ambulante Gabriel Chaile

Traveling Cultural Center

During the month of October, The Green Parrot and einaidea present a new workshop in collaboration with Argentine artist Gabriel Chaile. Twice every week in the afternoon, we will explore the conceptualization, construction and implementation of Centro Cultural Ambulante ("Traveling Cultural Center") — a prototype oven that is also a mobile sculpture and a relational object. Formulated in an open and participatory manner by Gabriel Chaile, this device may function in different contexts and activate multiple social and affective dynamics.

The project is inspired by the tradition of "ollas populares" ("popular cooking pots") in Argentina, where sharing food and cooking together are acts of cooperation, as well as by formal elements of the Candelaria culture of Tucumán that inform Chaile's practice. The oven that will results from this process will be an act of collective construction and distributed ownership. Its launch and future circulations will be tokens of engagement from multiple people through teaching, dialogue, and experimentation.

This workshop is especially aimed at those willing to address, through their respective practices, topics such as the functionality of the precarious, sustainability, cooperativism, decolonization and all types of social problematics in art and design. The Traveling Cultural Center will also include the participation of students from EINA's Master in Design of Spaces MUDE.
