The project arises out of curiosity for the creation of alternative platforms for the promotion of art outside of conventional channels, and from an interest in conditioned and adapted ephemeral architecture within given contexts.
The structure is found in various underused empty lots in Barcelona, and is created from concrete frames, where the material is used to give rise to a double function: a studio where an artist can create works of art; and an exhibition space from where to show his or her production.
The goal is to encourage the public to get a closer idea of new forms of exhibition, where they might acquire cultural knowledge and aesthetic experiences at street level. The other objective is to show a small selection of emerging art forms in a direct, dynamic and stimulating way.
On a formal level, the intervention has the idea of dialoguing with the surroundings while respecting them. For this reason a single language has been developed, using materials that might create a direct connection with the exterior. Transparent and closed forms are combined so as to set up a play of light and shadow in the interior.
The result is thus a space open to a wide-ranging potential public seeking to discover different ways of creating, interested in seeing both the work in progress and its final result.
