Spectacle of a Function

Spectacle of a Function arises out of an interest in the previous representation of uses in a given space. It is constituted as a research and experimental project on how, through the regulation of pre-existing emotions in a space, it might be possible to come to another reading of its uses.

The intention is to explore the capacity of a space to lay out its own rules and parameters, and how this might implicate the user in direct contact with it. Various terms are dealt with, such as the assigning of roles and hierarchies in the space, the way the space creates its own temporal dynamics, and how the space intervenes in an active or reflexive attitude on the part of the user leading a work group.

All of this gives rise to a series of reflections that might serve to reconsider three proposals, put to the test in the Combinatory Gallery of the Fundació Antoni Tàpies. These tests lead to a self-run framework typified by an austere use of resources and materials. For this reason there is no dependency on a final result in formal terms or in relation to finishing details. What is important instead is the way the user is invited to participate in the action.

Finally an analytical and critical activity related to the obtained results is carried out, so as to better understand previously elaborated ideas, and to question and reformulate the project itself.
