Sarau is a Catalan rumba festival that will be held in London. It has been created motivated by the aims of the Manifesto for the Catalan Rumba (Barcelona, 2008), that of exporting this musical style around the world. With a capacity of around 3,000 people, the festival will offer a range of activities, and its principal attraction will be live concerts. It is aimed at a public interested in discovering new genres of music and other cultures and with a desire to have a good time.
The aim of the project has been to update the image of the Catalan rumba, without scorning the existing one, creating an identity that expresses the essence of this musical style (rhythm, fiesta, movement, joy, fusion) and that allows all the groups and styles that form part of it to be embraced. I have also sought to break away from the comparison that is often made between Catalan rumba and flamenco. A unique typography, that allows experimentation with rhythm and movement, and the diversity of colours, which enables multiple combinations to be achieved, constitute the graphic language of the festival.
