On 6 and 7 November, Disseny Hub Barcelona (DHub) will host Parlem de... André Ricard. Dissenyador Industrial, a two-day symposium organised by the Associació per a l’Estudi del Moble (AEM) exploring the legacy of a key figure in the history of industrial design in Catalonia.
Ricard contributed to the professionalisation and consolidation of design in Spain, understanding it as a discipline at the service of people and forging links between material culture, industry and everyday life. At Eina, André Ricard, a pioneer of industrial design in Spain, established the Product Design Department in 1993 and headed it until 1999, further strengthening his commitment to training new generations of designers.
The event is coordinated by Jordi Blasi, a lecturer at Eina, and features strong representation from the Eina community. Participants include Eina Bachelor of Design alumni Alba Úbeda, Rocío Rodríguez, Lluc Pallicer and Lena Macau, as well as former lecturers Oriol Pibernat, Anna Majó and Oriol Ventura. Their talks will explore, among other topics, the cultural and architectural context of Ricard’s Barcelona, the gesture of the object and social commitment through design.
Divided into two sessions, the programme will also address furniture design, project culture, lighting and collections associated with Ricard. The symposium will conclude on Saturday with a guided tour of the exhibition André Ricard. Disseny en ús, led by its curators, Arnau Pascual and Marina Povedano.
The symposium will be held in person and in Catalan at Disseny Hub Barcelona, Plaça de les Glòries Catalanes, 37. General admission is €50, with reduced rates available for various groups.
