Neus Orozco - Reforma d’un habitatge al barri de Bellvitge

Renovation of an apartment in the Bellvitge district

The project consists of renovations to an apartment in the dormitory district of Bellvitge, in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat. The buildings in this neighbourhood, made from prefabricated modules, were designed for families who in the 1960s and 1970s emigrated to Catalonia from other parts of Spain in search of work and a better life.

The renovation focuses on solving the existing problems with the apartment, which does not meet the needs of the new tenant: an independent young man who needs somewhere to live and work. A multi-purpose space needs to be created where living and working areas co-exist and the apartment needs to be reconditioned to meet the new needs, taking into account the former layout, the use of the apartment and necessary changes in its design. This would not be an individually designed project, but would be used as a standard apartment.

A diaphanous space has been created which is divided by a central axis created by a multi-functional piece of furniture. This axis or block divides the apartment into two, with the living room and multi-purpose area on one side and the more private area of the kitchen, bathroom and bedroom on the other. A series of pathways have been created around the central piece of furniture that provide access to the different areas.
