The starting point of the project arises from the concept of sport as a spectacle. The project centres on a group of sports disciplines that are unknown to the general public: sports that are strange, eccentric, absurd, spontaneous and fun all at the same time. Cheese rolling, wellie-boot tossing and tricycle racing are just some of these sports that are popularly known as freak sports. The Olympfreaks are Olympic Games that have not existed until today and which are devoted to these peculiar disciplines.
The first games will be held in the city of Lleida, which is of the right size to stage this type of event. One of the aims of these original games will be to ensure that freak sports are recognised as sporting disciplines, besides bringing them to a bigger public.
The design challenge has been to give an identity to all the elements that comprise such unique Olympic Games, in which fun is one of the principal values. The identity has been created with a very clear premise: everything has to be done by hand, from the logo to the merchandising elements.
