The project consists of renovating a former coal-hole in the Port of Barcelona to turn it into a restaurant. The Moll Nou has undergone a number of changes that have transformed it into an up-market leisure activity area, thanks to its view, therefore making it the perfect place to set up a restaurant.
The main aim of the project is to offer a new perspective of Barcelona’s industrial port following the renovation of the quays at Moll Nou. Priority was given to preserving the original features of the building built in 1912 when developing the outside of the restaurant and creating its interior design. One of the main concepts of the project has been to strengthen the relationship between the outside and the inside of the premises, which is why a series of openings were created in the façade providing a direct view of the port in both the restaurant dining room and entrance.
Coal plays a very important role inside the restaurant as a reminder to diners of the warehouse’s former use. It has been applied to different elements, but where it is most relevant is in the lighting that streams through the whole place. Efforts have been made to establish a link with the shipping industry through the use of materials, including metal and wood.
