The project consists of remodelling a house workshop for young students from the University Institute of Hotel and Tourism Studies in Sant Pol de Mar, the same town where the chosen building is located.
The aim is to create a residence and adapt it to the biological and educational needs of the students in a Mediterranean climate, highly suitable given the setting and origins of the location, where self-management, coexistence and mutual learning are the fundamental pillars.
The site chosen for the project is the former Municipal Schools building, dating from 1910 and previously divided into two equal parts – one for the boys and one for the girls – clearly visible with the large windows set into the larger façades of the building. The aim of the new project is to highlight the initial structure and layout of the building and, as far as possible, keep as much of the vast amounts of light flooding in and the transparency between the rear and main façades.
