Verónica Martínez - Hotel Mónaco

Hotel Mónaco

The project consists of redesigning the former Casa Mónaco and its annexe to bring them into line with the requirements for a small boutique hotel.

The first key decision is to create internal communication between the two buildings. I decided to locate the reception and the bar/restaurant on the ground floor. The rooms are arranged at the hotel in a certain way as the structure of it favours repetitive floors of rooms on either side of a central passageway characterised by an internal courtyard that allows natural light in. A curtain of plants and vegetation will hang in this internal courtyard as far as the first floor, allowing natural light to flow in and at the same time hiding the view of a façade of irregular windows.

The vertical communications core is the point where the two buildings meet and the old wooden staircase is to be kept as a symbol of its identity. In terms of the outside, the natural stone cladding of the house will be recovered, to which the building is visually joined by means of a socle as far as the first level to be clad in the same stone. The garden will be kept and a small summer terrace created for the restaurant and a swimming pool open to hotel guests.
