Helena Magdalena is a part of my childhood. It is an illustrated book about what I felt, about what happened and everything that revolved around food. The main challenge was to create and convey such a small and disorganised thing as childhood memories. The solution was to design a type of hybrid between a story and an artist’s book.
This book of about a hundred pages arranges family anecdotes into chapters, such as Appetite, Milk, Grandparents, Water, Bread, Extras and The Egg. The format, content and spirit of Helena Magdalena move between two worlds, the adult’s and the child’s. The reader will find themselves rummaging around in this tailor’s drawer, a magic potion to awaken their own memories.
