We are facing environmental crisis, mainly caused by human activity. Climate and ecosystems are changing rapidly, accompanied by an alarming rate of extinction of species. Bees are pollinators, and essential to our world; without them we would be facing ecosystem failures and serious crop losses. Therefore, this project presents a product to house 90 percent of bee species in a key ecosystem: cities.
Hbee is a pollinator insect hotel especially designed for solitary or pseudo-social bees located in the parks and urban gardens of Barcelona. The design is a balance between urban aesthetics and the natural world: it is a mass produced product so that it can be as widely distributed as possible in the metropolis and it is adaptable to the needs of particular species and locations due to the its modular build. Easily recycled and with a minimal environmental footprint in its manufacture, it contributes to improved biodiversity in Barcelona’s green areas and, consequently, to improved quality of life for citizens.
