The project refers to the relationship between human beings and housing. The home is the most vital space of our existence and this is still the case even in our day. As a starting point a number of references have been analyzed which are indicators of nation-wide changes. Humanism is the main organizing concept, just as it was for the “Casa dels Braus” (Bull House) residential building designed by Antoni de Moragas.
The project is to be carried out in the former S.E.A.T. building. The building had already been converted from an industrial building to residential use. Its current state is an example of the standard model of privately developed blocks of flats, carried out at the end of the twentieth century and the early twenty-first century during the real estate boom. These residences are deficient in terms of quality and functionality. The paradigm has thus impacted negatively on vital life functions and needs as expressed in a residential building.
This project proposes the rehabilitation of the apartment residences, tipus and tester, the main façade and the creation of a new shared inner courtyard. The project seeks to revive the more humanist sensibility of Catalan architecture of the 1950s and give the residential building new values corresponding to current social models.
