Marina Pujol Möller - EL PATI

EL PATI

El Pati is an intervention in refugee camps with the objective of encouraging social cohesion and the revival of human relationships. It is found in the geographical area of Sub-Saharan Africa for reasons of climate, and to enable it to be adapted to specific construction techniques and materials.

So as to define the proposal’s final formalization, two types of architecture and spatial organization are analyzed: the architecture of the people of black Africa, and the structure of refugee camps. A high degree of discrepancy has been detected between these two architectures, so that the goal is to break down the grid pattern of the camps so as to move closer to the structure of the towns analyzed.

Without a great quantity of resources, the solution is to reuse the material found in ACNUR tents as well as local material, such as earth, straw and stone. Starting with the tent itself, two modules are created which when laid out in different ways create multiple combinations. El Pati is not a project proposing a single, unarguable solution. Rather, it is the result of a set of studies and analyses each with their own conclusions, given shape to a space whose goal is to encourage the social cohesion of its users.
