Mónica López - A Dos Pasitos

A Dos Pasitos (Just Two Steps)

A dos pasitos (Just two steps) is the emotional distance separating the home of any of the neighbours from these two seventeenth-century houses in Cordoba’s old town. The name refers to the affection used to attract families to this social meeting point. The project provides a way of rediscovering the original premise behind these two buildings, which are united in their nod to the work of Palladio. This process returns the building to a domestic condition, makes it fit for popular use and removes add-ons and modifications that the passage of time has allowed and rescues the rear garden for families and cultural events. The idea behind this renovation is to create an interior architecture which is considered a dedensification, to convey a sense of the walls being thicker at the entrance becoming thinner as you move towards the interior garden. The floorings emphasise this very aspect in that their colour and texture decrease in intensity as you approach the garden. This space, dominated by the high guardians of the cypresses, heighten their poetry at dusk, during recitals or summer cinema, wrapped in an intense scent of jasmine. All this will transform the centre into a reference point that will stand out in the popular memory of Ajerquía.
