The practice of institutional critique in recent decades has provided an insight into the institution of art (its modes of production, distribution, exhibition, and established ideologies) that has not been available in the field of design.
By analysing the implications of the processes of creation in relation to their immediate habitat, this paper aims to initiate a critical examination of the institutions of design by questioning the role of the studio. With the aim of promoting the transformation and connection of design with other social spheres, I propose a new citizens' organisation dedicated to collective creation.
