I am proposing the renovation of a former industrial warehouse in Gràcia where a programme can be run that enables seniors to carry out professional and productive activities. The centre also includes a play-centre for children aged between 4 and 10 and promotes intergenerational activities.
The area of intervention comprises two buildings: the factory on Calle Quevedo and an adjacent car park to the rear that exits on to Calle Bailén. I am suggesting restoring the factory to adapt it to the proposed use and demolishing the car park to create an external space attached to the centre, as well as opening up a traffic axis between the Gràcia and Eixample districts.
By way of contrast, given the orthogonal nature of the container, dictated by a Taylorist maximum productivity management model, I propose a new distribution based on curved lines and spaces of sinuous circulation.
The centre includes a workshop space, an area for ironing clothes and sewing, a kitchen, an area for working with a computer, a table where users can work without a computer and a kitchen garden area, as well as support and administrative services. It also has a shop which sells goods produced at the centre and a bar with a terrace open to the general public.
