The project consists of designing a city-street rubbish cart for Barcelona. The end result is not just a low-cost product (entrepreneur’s viewpoint), but is also an outstanding product due to its practical and functional nature (user’s viewpoint).
The materials used are a high-density, long-term biodegradable polyethylene plastic body, and stainless steel structural elements, as well as some aluminium components. The project solves basic ergonomic problems for users posed by today’s carts. The cart has an inverted lid that can be kept open during the working day without disturbing the operator. This does away with the repetitive movement of opening and closing the lid when throwing away waste. One of the most significant features of the project is its aim to bring a certain order to storage space at the cart facilities. Consequently, it is possible to move several carts at the same time as though they were a shopping market trolley.
