Volume IV of LAMURAD, Southern Journal of Research in Art and Design, the journal of the University Master's Degree in Research in Art and Design (MURAD) of EINA and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), which brings together the research articles produced during the programme, has just been published.
This MURAD publication was created in the 2018-2019 academic year as a platform for the dissemination and exhibition of the research and reflections on art and design generated by the work experiences of the entire group involved in the master's degree (teaching staff, students, guest lecturers, etc.).
LAMURAD shares, makes visible and promotes academic texts and projects related to the lines of work developed in the Master's Degree and in the related Research Groups, such as the SGR GRETDA (Grup de Recerca en Estètica i Teoria del Disseny i l'Art).
One of the main objectives of LAMURAD is to contribute to the current, ongoing and prospective discourse on the nature, definition and scope of artistic research and research through design. But it is also conceived as a place for reflection on research in contemporary aesthetic practices, even beyond design and art. The subtitle Southern Journal of Research in Art and Design designates its global vocation, certainly, but looking especially at the Mediterranean and Latin America.
"There is an ongoing struggle for the recognition of the value of research in our field in the face of the legitimised forms of scientific research. Knowledge is power and it is power that decides what is knowledge," say Dr. Tània Costa and Dr. Gerard Vilar, editors of LAMURAD and coordinators of the master's degree.
And they say: "This platform also aims to contribute to the legitimisation and recognition of research in art and design by vindicating their differences, without trying to dress artists and designers in white coats. Although this endeavour is a huge and lengthy task, we work in LAMURAD to advance step by step, and collectively, in the indicated direction".
