Hacia una creatividad ecológica, thesis by Pilar Cortada

Pilar Cortada, director of Eina Obra and PhD student of the itinerary of Research in Design and Art of EINA, attached to the Doctoral Programme of Philosophy of the UAB, publicly presents her thesis “Hacia una creatividad ecológica” (Towards an ecological creativity) on Friday 1st March at 4pm in the Auditorium of Eina Bosc.

The study of creativity, traditionally approached by the disciplines of cognitive and personality psychology, has tended to focus on the individual and his or her cognitive capacities, excluding from the research two variables considered fundamental in this work. On the one hand, the natural or built environment that surrounds the organism. On the other hand, the sensory, affective and intellectual attention that the organism pays in its encounter with the world in search of opportunities for action.

In contrast to the perspective of creativity centred on the cognitive capacities of the humanistic individual, Pilar Cortada's research proposes to understand it as a process that arises from the reciprocal action between being and environment, in which active exploration and aesthetic - or sensitive - attention play a fundamental role. It is argued that creating is a relational, situated and distributed process, resulting not so much from the manipulation of decontextualised representations, but from the action of an organism in/with its performative environment and the way it attends to and relates to it.
