Andreu Balius, typographer and professor of Bachelor of Design, will give the conference ' Diseño de tipografía desde una perspectiva multicultural’ (Typography design from a multicultural perspective) on 15 February at 9.30 am at the Centro de Creación Contemporánea De Andalucía in Córdoba.
In this lecture, he will talk about the importance of multi-script typography design, focusing on Arabic typography design. Andreu will showcase some of his typographic projects, focusing specifically on the typographic research project Typographic Matchmaking in the Maghrib 3.0, which hosted Casa Árabe in 2015, with the aim of promoting cultural dialogue and helping to develop native design skills. At this conference, organised by The Khatt Foundation, Center for Arabic Typography, a group of European (Holland, Spain and France) and Arab (Morocco, Tunisia and Lebanon) researchers researched and developed different typeface families combining Arabic, Berber languages and Latin, resulting in the Tubqal Pro typeface (Latin-Arabic-tifinagh) available at Typerepublic. He will also talk about the Pradell Arabic project (which is part of the Al-Ándalus project for Arabic font design), which can be consulted at this link.
