The design of scenic and exhibition spaces covers areas such as theatre, cinema, museography and cultural events. Space, light, objects, image and sound construct a sensorial narrative in a wide variety of contexts.
To learn about the construction of atmospheres, spatial narratives and immersive experiences, the students of the Bachelor of Design in the subject of Design of scenic and exhibition spaces, led by Anna Alcubierre, visited three exhibitions: Cul a terra! at the Palau Robert, Dones de Paraula at the Museu Marès, and Maya Deren at the Museu Etnològic i de Cultures del Món.
In Cul a terra! the layout of the space not only informs but also challenges the visitor, posing a dialogue between the body and the ground, between the collective memory and the individual gesture. For its part, Dones de Paraula offers an intimate narrative where the scenography constructs a symbolic refuge for the invisible female voices, through dim lighting and a route charged with symbolism. Finally, the exhibition Maya Deren combines experimental cinema and world cultures in an installation that transforms the room into a sensorial capsule of journeys and dreamlike visions.
These exhibitions are an example of the multifaceted character that is promoted in the training of the contemporary designer, capable of responding to a multiplicity of inputs from art, technology and visual narrative. The design of exhibition spaces not only organises content, but also translates it into an experience, amplifying its impact and meaning.
The design of the three exhibitions is by alcubierrestudio. The graphic design is by: Cul a terra! by Opisso Studio; Dones de Paraula by todojunto; and Maya Deren by almonacid estudi.
