When it came to choosing the subject for my final degree project, I decided to look at the elements of my city that needed improving and I always had it very clear in my mind that I wanted to make full use of this emblematic building currently in a state of disrepair. Why a historical archive? Because the city of Tarragona is bursting with history and it has always had a special place in the hearts of the people of Tarragona. The challenge: to bring culture and history to the people in a setting incorporating design and modernity.
I have set the project in the building that used to house the former rectory of the archbishop of Tarragona cathedral which dates from the thirteenth century. The programme that I have set here is the historical archive. I would like this to be more accessible than current archive which is why I have chosen Pla de la Seu as the setting, because it is a very busy and, above all, emblematic square, as it is also the site of the city’s cathedral.
