Supermarket for the Visually Impaired

Graphics for a supermarket for the visually impaired and the blind. From the human perspective, the challenge is to ensure that these people are given a set of skills to help with one of life’s most common activities: going to the supermarket and buying the products they need. In addition to this, from the graphic design point of view, the aim is to create a graphic system adapted to their situation and which helps them identify the product and its layout in the supermarket. I want to provide access with visual resources that have been adapted in a direct, simple and straightforward way. To develop the project and ensure that it has real consistency, I have enlisted the help and collaboration of people who are visually impaired and blind.

The adaptations have been many and varied, but one of the most important has been that all signage, in the supermarket line, on products, and, above all, in the space has been designed and built incorporating relief work, a pictographic system designed for them, with the basic yet unmistakeable shapes of the products, to help blind people identify the product and move about freely. For the visually impaired, the signage has been created using macrotypography.
