The project starts on the basis of the renovation of a house in a small village in the Ribera d’Ebre region called Serra d’Almos, which consists of an interpretation centre on the rearguard of the Battle of the Ebro, since this historic monument experienced this very intensely. Specifically, the village was caught up in the health work of the Republican zone, as a field hospital was set up there for some months.
My proposal is based on refurbishing a house in the centre of the village, privately used today, but which would have a public use. The new centre would have workshop, temporary exhibition and permanent exhibition spaces and a bar. The top floor would house the interpretation centre.
RERE would transform the appearance of the building right from the facade, which would take on the image of a public building. A graphic image would be applied to it using the colours black and orange. Corten steel would also be used in the window frames, the handrails and the exhibition elements. The most important intervention on the space would be the introduction of a lift as a vertical element that crosses the whole of the house and connects all the floors.
