The Rectorate, creative space

The project involves the rehabilitation of the La Tallada d’Empordà Rectorate, a special building for its past, found in the heart of the Ampurdán district.

The residence is a building set along a section of a historical castle, the Castillo de la Tallada. The wall, from the eleventh century, is the main facade and is set between two towers.

The project has the goal of rehabilitating the building, respecting its past and consolidating its future, providing a service of cultural interest in public benefit, encouraging creativity and a contact network in converting it into a centre for co-working and networking.

The new use arises out of the needs and opportunities brought on by new technologies, new forms of employment and an economic crisis that is changing the world of work. Self-employment and entrepreneurship have increased notably, and with them the need to open up networks of professional contacts.

The design challenge consists in coming up with a project with an up-to-date vision that might be integrated into a building whose origins are medieval, found in a rural setting far from any large urban centre.
