Photo Araúna

Collection of simply-produced, small-format publications that seeks to arrange and publicise the archive of photographers Joaquín and José Luis Araúna. This brings together pictures taken in Cantabria throughout the whole of the twentieth century, in most cases as part of the local press. They are pictures located in a distant context that were also conceived to accompany press articles or written reports.
The main challenge is to imbue the photographs with the contextualisation and the educational detail necessary to achieve their complete understanding today, while also respecting to the utmost the integrity of the original instant, given their value as historic piece and signature work. The guide through this contextualisation is the account of José Luis Araúna himself, which gives words to the pictures through comments taken from hours of conversations.
