No somos Dioses (We Are not Gods)

Why are humans, the most intelligent animals, destroying the planet, while the other, supposedly “stupid” animals do not?

This was the question that launched this project. Humans have constantly evolved, yet the human genome we understand today shares 99% of its genes with the chimpanzee and the bonobo. Both these “ancestor” species are currently in danger of extinction, along with the majority of wild and exotic animals on the planet. Given this, how did we come to be the rulers of the world?

This protest project explains how and why it happened, starting from the idea that people have a tendency to put themselves in borderline situations with the world around us, the fault of our anthropocentric and consumerist behaviour. Thus, considering a real situation in which mankind is incapable of changing radically, certain problems are analyzed, including the capitalist system, but also aspects such as our imagination, our creativity and our activity – which are, in reality, the cause of all our global ills.

Ultimately, this project is a brief summary of our destructive evolution with regards to the environment, from the beginning of our existence until the present day. It is presented as a 2D animation, an adaptation of the book Sapiens: a Brief History of Humankind by Yuval Noah Harari.

How far are we prepared to go in sacrificing the planet for our own comfort?
