The project consists of designing a supermarket trolley which, as well as a new design, proposes a system and range of different uses. The system is based on a technological innovation created at the store which involves replacing bar codes with RFID chips (Radio Frequency Identification). This change means that shopping can be charged automatically without products having to be offloaded when the customer reaches the check-out. This technological application considers a shopping trolley to be a support for three polypropylene bags that are put into it by the user or shopper. The three bags act as rational containers which classify shopping by domestic storage category.
Application of the new system and new design produce the following benefits: greater comfort, as shoppers no longer have to empty and then reload the trolley at the check-out; fewer queues, as charging at the check-out disappears; greater privacy when shopping; the volume of the shopping trolley adapts to the products that it contains; and no more plastic bags that are used only once.
