The project is based on an detached house in Banyoles, in Girona province. The original building, planned over twenty years ago, is currently at a standstill and only the foundations and the structure have been completed. The proposed refurbishment project arose from the owners’ need to bring the whole family together – sons and daughters and grandchildren – at the weekend.
The aim was to combine the everyday use of the home – by the couple that own it – with the intermittent use of the whole family to help with family get-togethers. The house is designed based on a central hub, around which life evolves and which at the same time creates space. This hub links the three floors of the building and encourages natural light. A number of permeable spaces have been designed that adapt to the changing needs of the users: movable partition walls that become part of the furniture, furniture and lighting that provide continuity to the spaces and carpets that link the inside with the outside.
