The La Casona Education Action Residency is a centre that takes in teenagers in situations of risk. Social educators work at the centre to ensure that the basic needs of these minors are met, as well as their effective, psychological and education requirements.
The project is based in Barcelona’s Gràcia district, an area with an abundance of young people’s associations and facilities that will help the minor integrate into society. There are three specific similar houses, built in 1873, on Carrer Verdi. This location is interesting because, despite although these buildings are emblematic of the Gràcia district, a lot of later work has been carried out on them which has diminished the original style of the buildings. One of the aims of the project is to return to the buildings to their original state.
Joining the three houses together and reorganising their interior starting with the interior layout of one of them meets the educational needs of the centre by creating private spaces and communal spaces where minors can develop and grow personally, educationally and socially.
