Café Culture is designed as a centre for cultural leisure in the centre of Barcelona. It comprises a space for the promotion of culture, which focuses on offering opportunities to new artists. This space covers 700 m2, of which some 300 m2 are outside. The space has been designed as a café offering live music. This space includes a room reserved for exhibitions of work by new artists. Each month, a different artist will be offered an opportunity. The exhibitions will cover all genres and fields of art: from painting and sculpture to multimedia art, cinema, etc.
The main aim of this project is to articulate the interior and the exterior coherently and consequently expand the surface area of the useful space, always respecting the neo-classical façades of the building. This is achieved by extending the interior flooring outwards and unifying the elevations. The organic forms bring greater fluidity of circulation between the spaces, making the most of their qualities and uses.
