CROMLEC. An intensive residency for unresolved art projects

einaidea and Konvent Zero are launching an open call for an intensive residency aimed at researchers from any artistic discipline interested in sharing their production and experimentation processes over the course of ten days next autumn.
Seeking a dialogue between material fragments that come together for an encounter, gathering in a circle, this residency takes the name CROMLEC (Catalan for "cromlech"). A cromlech is not merely an enclosure defined by stones arranged in a circle on the ground, it is also an encounter at variable equidistance, an attempt between closeness and remoteness. Each element of what might be a circle possesses characteristics that make it singular while linking it to the whole, not just spatially, and not necessarily through form.
What might a contemporary cromlech be made of? What elements might serve as equivalents or comparable to stones? This is the very question that CROMLEC seeks to pose. It is also an invitation to think from within that circle, a circle formed by unresolved works: a circle of questions. Its interior might be envisioned as a dynamic, light-footed stage for an intersection of gazes, waves, and an intertwining of relationships. Here, knowledge, desires, and memories are carried by each materiality, each "stone", can be projected. The "cromlec" is porous, irregular, temporal, anti-solemn. We envision a CROMLEC composed of problems that invite us to explore their histories and transform their (and our) becomings.
Each participant will contribute to the circle with a work still entangled in the complexities of its own development: a tangible or intangible piece that exists yet still resists completion––a work asking to be shared and explored by others, perhaps to be finished collectively, destroyed, exchanged, or dissolved into the ecosystem. CROMLEC is an experimental process shaped by time and a few premises set within a large, dilapidated space.

The residency will take place from October 2 to 12, 2026, at the facilities of Konvent Zero—a former convent converted into a creative space—located in Cal Rosal (Berga, Catalonia).
What the residency offers:
- Accommodation from October 2 to 12, 2026
- Meals included during the stay (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
- A stipend of €300 per participant
- Shared workspace at Konvent Zero
- Curatorial guidance and ongoing support from einaidea and Konvent Zero
- Travel expenses (public transport or fuel for a personal vehicle) from Barcelona to Konvent Zero
- Applications and selection criteria:
Interested individuals must submit:
- Portfolio: Documentation of at least four previous works (PDF or links to websites, videos, publications, etc.), ideally including a brief general description of their practice.
- Letter or note of motivation: This must specify the interest in participating in the residency and outline potential lines of work or research to be developed during the stay. Proposals should be based on an ongoing project that would benefit from collective exploration and/or alteration. Preference will be given to proposals that are context-sensitive and open to exchange and to critical or process-based working methodologies.
Participants commit to:
- Actively participating in the communal life and gatherings of the residency
- Respecting the venue's spaces and dynamics
- Participating in a final event and public presentation at the end of the residency.
Authorship of the projects and materials will remain entirely with the creators. The organizers may use images and documentation from the residency exclusively for communication and archival purposes, always crediting the respective authors.
