"Typographic Matchmaking in the Maghrib” with Andreu Balius and Laura Meseguer

Andreu Balius and Laura Meseguer, together with Juan Luis Blanco, Naïma Ben Ayed, Redouan Chetuan, Salah Eddine Bellizi and Kristyan Sarkis, have started the project "Typographic Matchmaking in the Maghrib”, which is being developed at the Khatt Foundation, Center for Arabic Typography, headquartered in Amsterdam.

Constituted by three working groups, each one developing a type family, the objective is to harmoniously combine systems of Arabic writings incorporating Maghribi, Tifinagh and Latin styles. The Maghribi and Tifinagh are not still highly developed at a digital level, despite being very present in the culture of the Maghreb and Al Andalus and that's where one of the interests of the typographic project relies. Once completed the project will be available as Open Source for cultural and educational institutions that wish to consult it.

For the moment, two workshops will take place; research trips, the first of which will be held September 12th to 19th in Marrakesh and the second in Granada and Cordoba from November 26th to December 3rd.
