Norberto Chaves, who passed away on December 19, was a leading figure in the world of design and visual communication, with a close connection to Eina from its early days. Born in Buenos Aires in 1942, Chaves was a corporate identity consultant, essayist, and educator who left a profound mark on the history of graphic design in Catalonia and beyond.
After arriving in Barcelona in 1977, he became part of Eina's teaching staff, working there between 1977 and 1987. He taught subjects such as Theory of Communication, Theory of Design, Image Reading, and Introduction to Graphic Design, contributing to the development of design and visual communication theory. His critical and academic vision helped lay the foundation for many contemporary graphic design professionals.
During his time at Eina, he also participated in lectures such as Elogy of Utopia, Modernist Posters in Catalonia, Escher, Drawer of Concepts, and The Pedagogy of Color.
Beyond his teaching career, Norberto Chaves was a respected author in the field of corporate identity and graphic design, publishing numerous books and articles.
