Students of the 4th year of the Degree in Design 2013-2014 at EINA, have been awarded a European Newspaper Award granted by the Office for Newspaper Design, for the informative and visual quality of an infographic project on John Fitzgerald Kennedy.
The European Newspaper Awards, grant recognitiion to the best newspaper works of the continent, divided into 21 different categories. In this occassion the recognition has been collectively awarded, within the University students of Visual Journalisim and Information Design category, to students of the subject Infography taught by professor Jordi Català, for a set of works done during the academic year 2013-2014. It is the first time that the European Newspaper Award grants such a recognition to students of a Univerisity in Catalonia or Spain. Within this category, other 3 awards have been given to European students of journalistic design.
This year’s awards have been solemnely presented during the 27th edition of the European International Congress in Press Design, celebrated in the premises of the Vienna City Hall, in Austria. The colllective award reunites up to 8 infographic projects, worked in teams of 2. Students, currently young design professionals, have spent a few days in Vienna with Jordi Català, leading professor of the awarded projects, and have participated in several events, including the inauguration at the Schönbrunn Palace and the Gala Dinner at Vienna’s City Hall, having shared altogether congress sessions and social programming around the fascinating capital of Austria. EINA alumni participants have been: Olivia Boix, Karina Sayas, Lucía del Toro, Norma Alicia Vázquez (Mexico), Daniel Moliner, Marc Freixas, Marc Gómez, Didac Esteve. Igualment han estat premiats encara que no han pogut desplaçar-se a Viena, Ángel Montoy, Berta Tubau, Ester Vilaplana, Mireia Badosa, Alfons Alarcón and Judit Maldonado.
The European Newspaper Award is the most important European competition to recognize the visual and design commitment of media, throughout one year. They recognize the best global and partial designs in newspapers and other media, such as online and new media and applications for new technologies , specially giving value to : innovation , creativity, uniqueness and commitment for change and imagination.
