Tutored by Fanny Basanta, students on Projects 2 in the Product Design mention, in the 1st year of the Bachelor’s Degree in Design, are conducting an experimentation project with materials and processes in the field of food.
The aim has been to design a utensil/object that can be trialled during the EINA Open Doors Day and that is related to food, taking advantage of the traditional paella that is made that day.
The lockdown has meant that the project has been adapted:
-
Not being able to go out to buy materials has meant that students have had to use what they have at home, making them reroute the project more effectively. The material determines and improves the proposal they initially had in mind.
-
The difficulty in obtaining materials has enabled them to research recipes and experiments to create the material from scratch, which has led to finding ways of manufacturing them from waste or food, meaning that the proposal, the process and the result are all more sustainable.
-
Students have been able to experiment with different ways of representing their ideas, looking more closely at digital tools, such as photo-montages and renders.
Never waste a good crisis! : )
