The book Design without Project by Octavi Rofes will be presented on Friday 2 February at 7 pm at La Central bookshop (Mallorca, 237).
The event will be led by Martí Guixé, director of the Corraini Edizioni collection; Oriol Fontdevila, curator, art researcher and professor of the Degree in Design at EINA; and Jo Milne, artist, researcher and teacher at the centre.
In 2012, Octavi Rofes created a manifesto announcing the death of the project as an escape route from the banality of contemporary design. In Design without Project, he rereads his manifesto after a decade of interminable crisis, going beyond the project to propose alternative forms of practice for today's design world.
Design without Project is many things at once. It is a record of a convulsive month in history, a theory of cultural practices and a series of notes on design criticism. It celebrates the kind of design that dodges the latest banalities: the excesses of techno optimism and dystopian futurology, the shareability of Instagram content. This book is an artefact of unknown and unexplored possibilities.
