IV Jornades GEARAD

IV Symposium of EINA doctoral students and PhD students

The IV GEARAD Symposium (Group of Aesthetics Applied to Artistic and Design Research), promoted by the doctoral students of the EINA art and design itinerary of the PhD programme of the Department of Philosophy of the UAB, took place on 7 February.

GEARAD is a reading group, within the doctoral training courses of EINA and UAB, which meets monthly to discuss procedural and methodological issues of the doctoral theses of its members. Since its founding in 2017, around 25 doctoral students participate annually, along with a collegiate coordination formed by Tània Costa, Jèssica Jaques and Gerard Vilar.

The research carried out by GEARAD doctoral students covers a wide range of art and design topics, which are worked on both theoretically and practically. In this sense, the 10 theses already presented have made relevant contributions to knowledge in the field of studies on: political choreographies and contemporary dance; performance and taste aesthetics; graphic design and visualisations; acoustic design and sound art; design and cinema; new materialisms and digital art.

During the first semester of 2023, a further 4 theses will be defended on artistic and curatorial research, industrial design and ethics, interior design in restoration, and post-colonial thought.

In the IV GEARAD Conference. Dialogues towards research in art and design, coordinated by doctoral students Mónica Lopez Andreu and Soraia Gomes Teixeira, 15 papers were presented in which the doctoral students explored specific concepts of their current research.
