Inaugural lecture: Between art and design Contemporary convergences, crossovers and hybridisations

"Today, in the field of visual arts, specifically in contemporary art and in design, we are seeing a plurality of practices that just a few years ago we would have classed as eclectic. All of this is accompanied by strong cross-disciplinary experimentation in the teaching of the arts. Since that time, the traditional relationships between art and design, strongly founded on a division of territories and on more or less accepted hierarchical relationships, have been questioned. New wefts have been woven and here we could question the forms"
Guadalupe Echevarria Busquet is currently Cultural Director of the Donostia/San Sebastián 2016 European Capital of Culture. She was Director of the Ecole d'Enseignement Superieur en Art et Design in Bordeaux, where she carried out numerous reforms, including cross-disciplinary-based teaching. Prior to this, she was curator-producer of the Contemporary Art Television Fund de Boston, Director of the International Video at the San Sebastian International Film Festival, Curator at the Centro de Arte Reina Sofia in Madrid, among many other activities.
