On Friday 27 September, the Art, Design and Society subject on the EINA Bachelor’s Degree in Design is organising the 3rd Group Public Reading as part of the World Climate Strike, an event that is open to everyone and which will be held at the Llibreria Calders bookshop (Passatge Calders, 9, Metro: Poble Sec / Sant Antoni).
The chosen book is The Drought, 1965, by J. G. Ballard. The action will start at 8.30 am and the reading will be shared by all the participants, without interruption, until the novel is finished. It is planned to finish by 6 pm, when the demonstration is scheduled.
Previous editions of the Group Public Reading saw 1984 by George Orwell being read, coinciding with the General Strike of 29 March 2012, and The Trial by Franz Kafka, during the National Shutdown on 3 October 2017. In this case, Ballard’s work anticipates part of today's fears regarding the climate crisis, telling of the transformations of a world without water, where humans survive by reinventing coexistence.
