Grand Laus of Graphic Design for Arauna Studio

Arauna is a graphic design studio based in Barcelona, founded in 2014 by Dani Rubio Arauna, former student of the Bachelor of Design and former professor at EINA.

Arauna Studio has won the Grand Laus of Graphic Design with the project 'Tactical Urbanism', which humanizes the asphalt of Barcelona. The new graphic image for the tactical urbanism actions at the same time provides the city with an easily recognisable code, which facilitates the assimilation of the new uses of urban space. This project has also been awarded by the Art Directors Club in New York.

The Grand Laus for Graphic Design has surprised Dani Rubio Arauna: "First of all, I didn't expect it to receive such great recognition because it is a project in a discipline such as space graphics, which is not usually the focus of attention in graphic design", he says.

"On the other hand, I really like the fact that it was this project and at this time, since it has been so controversial, so criticised and questioned (often not so much by the design itself, but by urban planning and politics, which is not up to us, but by the commission). It is a type of project that only has a reason to exist if it is polemical, because it has a vindictive point, a point of calling attention to and questioning the way we make use of urban space and that wants to change things. And in this sense, I also like the fact that a good part of the jury is from abroad (Holland, Helsinki, Murcia...), because it reinforces the impartiality in which a project that is too often judged through a partisan prism is assessed", says Dani Rubio Arauna.

Congratulations!
