- 23 October to 23 February
- Room 3, Palau Robert, Barcelona
The exhibition "America Sanchez: classic, modern, jazz and tropical" gathers the legacy of the graphic designer, founder and head of the graphic design area of EINA and creator of the first logo of the centre.
The exhibition shows America Sanchez's long and fruitful career, his eclectic and unclassifiable style, and his link to Barcelona for more than 50 years.
At the opening ceremony of the exhibition, America Sanchez recalled the importance he attached to his time at EINA, where he arrived when the centre was founded in 1967 by his friend and designer Yves Zimmermann to take charge of the graphic design department. "It was at EINA that I really learned to design. Teaching taught me how to work too”.
The exhibition is structured in seven areas: From Buenos Aires to Barcelona, Journey to Utopia, The Design Boom, Brand Design, Graphic Strategies, Artist and Collecting Things.
These areas present an absolutely polyhedral work that is sometimes very difficult to classify, that introduces the spectator into a rich and complex creative world and traces a route made from the collection of Archivo Lafuente in Santander, complemented with works from Catalan collections and facsimile reproductions of some works.
"America Sanchez: classic, modern, jazz and tropical", curated by Juan Riancho, is organised by the Direcció General de Difusió de la Generalitat de Catalunya and Archivo Lafuente in Santander.
