Tere Recarens Emboscada

Ambush#18: Tere Recarens

einaidea invites artists, activists and researchers to join a week of intensive collaboration with artist Tere Recarens, as part of the Ambushes program. The workshop will take place during the afternoons of September 7-12 and will culminate with a public presentation on Saturday, September 13 at 12:00.

Emboscada #18: Tere Recarens takes as her starting point “the most relevant event that happened to me during my seven months in Iran” and which has given rise to several fundamental works in her career over the last decade. "A woman named Shahnaz Hadinya came to me like a ray of sunshine, she gave me a doll and a note: 'Greetings, dear people of Spain / I am a woman from Iran with the ability to think and create / I am a craftswoman. I have created a doll that makes children happy / I hope that one day my doll will become famous throughout the world / the name of this doll is Iran Galen, the Bride of Iran." Recarens presents the collaborative process within the Ambushes program as the collective elaboration of a message sent to Iran, "like an arm, like a thread of Iran Galen". Resonating with Eina Bosc's migratory and diasporic history, Recarens' workshop proposes a strong positioning with the present, an adaptation to the space, the search for support and at the same time a displacement towards a territory that continues to be immersed in the isolation of repression, blockade and war. The workshop will also feature political scientist Anahita Nassir and linguist Behjat Mahdavi.

The work of Tere Recarens (Arbúcies, 1967) incorporates drawing, words, photography, video and installation in a constant search for the limits of space as a public and collective stage. Using strategies and actions of a direct nature, both playful and radical, the artist often uses her body, her life path and elements to reveal new potentialities in everyday life. Deeply sensitive to the places and emotions that cross them, Recarens has developed her projects in contexts as diverse as Barcelona, Bamako, Paris, New York, Berlin and Tehran.
