Students of Illustration Techniques of the year 2015-2016, taught by Enric Font, have developed two mural interventions in two different public spaces in Barcelona, managed by the Rebobinart Association. 28 students worked jointly to create and decide upon two proposals that took place in the following places:

  • Citystop
Rambla Guipúscoa, 174 (former Cobega premises)
Proposal by Ariadna Castro and Maria Fallada
It is a large car park surrounded by walls painted by different artists BigWaalls Project (large format murals). Private use that allows free controlled access. An area of 36 x 4 m is reserved to be operated with the theme "Motorhomes", proposed by the management of the center.

  • Private wall in public space Rambla de Prim, 96
    Proposal by Francesc Muntada
Wall at the arched sidewalk, completely accessible from the street in a centric area of the Rambla de Prim. It occupies a surface of 22 x 2,4 m. of smooth wall between access doors to two commercial shops.

Students could do a conceptual work on the environment as an extension of the development process before and after the completion of the illustration: previously, the effective representation of the physical space and then the display and projection of the illustration within the space of intervention.

Contextualization in the public space meant to work with specific conditions: the work had a safe visibility and integrated into the everyday landscape of the neighbors. This forced them to consider what values they wanted to convey visually and the level of interaction that was intended to be achieved with pedestrians and the environment. Also, during the process of realization there was a relationship with people in the street, often in a very direct and open expression, in regard of their opinion.

Transfer of the projected image on a large format involves the use of appropriate tools and technology, making the student explore territories beyond their usual comfort zone; this fact highlighted the importance of the success of choosing an appropriate technique for each situation.
