Andreu Balius,Typography teacher for the Design Degree and the Master’s degreefor Advanced Typography will do a presentation on “Multiwriting typographic design as a political tool (beyond the cultural sphere)”.

Are typographic decisions alien to the political sphere?” To what extent can a certain typographic design or a particular typographic choice influence that which is “public”? Can a font design move our conscience? What importance does design have in multiwriting?

The talk will carry out a historical analysis of the relationship between writing and political power, listing cases where certain decisions have caused important changes in the linguistic and typographic fields. The importance of typography in generating identity values will also be discussed, and how these have been used politically. The focus on multiwriting typography design will be exposed through two study cases- the projects Al Andalus and Tubqal-, as well as the way type design responds to contemporary social needs.

On the other hand, Laura Meseguer and Joan Carles Casasín, both teachers of the Advanced Typographic Master will be attending.
