Ambush #12: Alberto Peral

Alberto Peral proposed an alteration of the walls surrounding Eina Bosc, conceived and carried out in collaboration with the workshop participants. The ideation process focused on the geometry, light, and colors of the space between the two Bosc buildings, observing the dialogue between architecture and the vegetation—a lyme tree, climbing plants, flowers—which borders the space but is also central to the environment. The intervention unfolded in two phases: first, the construction and installation of wooden appendages on the small wall surrounding the courtyard; then, the painting of the modified wall based on the colors of the ipomoea, a plant that grows in that same location and whose purple flower blooms during the summer and autumn months.

The work of Alberto Peral (Santurce, 1966) seeks to merge sculpture and architecture, understanding the latter as a relational space. Artworks are arranged like everyday objects in a house, but devoid of an apparent function, leaving their meaning in suspension, located between disbelief and the familiar, the unnatural and the mundane. Peral's practice thus proposes a poetic encounter between the simplest and most essential geometries and their locked potential. Incorporating contributions of the classical avant-garde, the manifestations of a transversal and underlying order, almost metaphysical, reveal themselves through form. Since 2019, Peral runs the project Halfhouse together with Sinéad Spelman, through which they organize countless exhibitions, workshops and residencies.
