Ambush #12: Alberto Peral

Ambush #12: Alberto Peral consists of a process of intervention in and alteration of the walls that surround Eina Bosc, conceived and developed by the participants in collaboration with the artist. The process, which starts as speculative design, pays attention to the geometry, light and colors of the space between the two buildings of Bosc, observing the existing dialogue between architecture and vegetation—a Lime tree, vines, flowers—which borders the space but also inhabits its center. The intervention results in two phases: first, the construction and installation of wooden pieces on the small wall that limits the patio, halfway between sculpture and architecture; afterwards, the group paints the wall based on the colors of the Ipiomea, the flower that grows around it.

The work of Alberto Peral (Santurce, 1966) seeks to merge sculpture and architecture, understanding the latter as a relational space. Artworks are arranged like everyday objects in a house, but devoid of an apparent function, leaving their meaning in suspension, located between disbelief and the familiar, the unnatural and the mundane. Peral's practice thus proposes a poetic encounter between the simplest and most essential geometries and their locked potential. Incorporating contributions of the classical avant-garde, the manifestations of a transversal and underlying order, almost metaphysical, reveal themselves through form. Since 2019, Peral runs the project Halfhouse together with Sinéad Spelman, through which they organize countless exhibitions, workshops and residencies.
