María García Ruiz

Researcher, visual artist and teacher. Her practice questions the physical and imaginary production of the territory and is formalised through curatorship, writing and long-term artistic projects.

Graduate in Architecture from the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de Granada. Master of Research in Art and Design from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and EINA. She is currently working on her PhD with a research project based on artistic practice and entitled Arquitecturas de los cuerpos en movimiento within the GEARAD (Grup d'Estètica Aplicada en Recerca Artística i en Disseny) belonging to the Department of Philosophy at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.

Artist in residence at Hangar (2022-2024). Participates, along with other international artists, in the Destituent Lab curated by Brandon LaBelle and the Quote-Unquote platform in Bucharest. Accesit in the Biennal d'Art Diputació de Tarragona (2021). Selected artist in Fotonoviembre, Festival Internacional de Fotografía de Tenerife (2021). Artistic Research Grant Fundación Banco Sabadell - Hangar (2020) with the project Campos, desplazamientos de los cuerpos en los límites de la forma. Multiverse Grant for video art creation with the project Tierras raras (2017). Miquel Casablancas Prize with the project Oratorio (2016). Research and Creation Grant from the Department of Culture of the Generalitat de Catalunya (2015 and 2016).

Curator, together with Moisés Puente, of the exhibition La ciudad en disputa. Experimentos colectivos en torno a la vivienda social en el sur de Europa for La Virreina Centre de la Imatge (2023). She is part of the curatorial team of the Bergen Assembly 2019 led by Iris Dressler and Hans D. Christ with the project Actually, the Dead Are Not Dead. Together with Pedro G. Romero, he will curate the exhibitions Una forma de ser for the Kunstverein Stuttgart (2020) and Máquinas de vivir. Arquitectura y flamenco en la ocupación y desocupación de espacios for CentroCentro Madrid and La Virreina Centre de la Imatge in Barcelona (2017-2018). Researcher in residence at the Museo Reina Sofía in Madrid with the project Doblar / desdoblar. Arquitectura, flamenco y operaciones coloniales (2015-2016). Mediator in residence at the Sala d'Art Jove (2015).
